Other changes in 2026
Bank Al-Maghrib cut the domestic interchange fee cap from 0.65% to 0.5% from October 1, 2026, with 0.15% for neighborhood shops and e-government. Contactless already covered over 70% of CMI transactions. Card payments grew 20% to 230.1 million operations in 2025, but payments are still only a third of card operations, the rest being ATM withdrawals.
What it means for payment operators
The opening of acquiring gives PSPs, PayFacs and ISOs more choice in Morocco. Comparing acquirers on pricing, coverage and settlement, and keeping the option to connect more than one, matters more now than when a single acquirer served the market. Routing rules can then use each connection where it fits best.
