In detail
valU, the fintech spun off from EFG Holding, leads the digital segment with more than 9,000 merchant partners and 8.7 million transactions in 2025. Contact, Aman, Souhoola, Sympl, premium card, MNT-Halan and Fawry's own lending products compete for the same shoppers.
A large, regulated market
Installments are a habit in Egypt, from electronics to cars and school fees. Consumer finance companies supervised by the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) granted EGP 96.3 billion of financing to 10.8 million clients in 2025. In June 2025 the FRA raised the pre-financing limit from EGP 10,000 to EGP 50,000 per client, subject to credit checks, and required financing to be disbursed and collected electronically. It has since paused new consumer finance licenses, which favors established players.
The market mixes BNPL apps, retail finance companies with in-store desks and bank installment plans on credit cards. Many providers also issue prepaid cards, so customers can spend their credit limit wherever cards are accepted.
What it means for payment operators
For operators serving Egyptian merchants, installments are often the deciding factor on higher baskets. Connecting one or two local finance providers as payment methods, and activating them per merchant, makes them available without each merchant integrating separately.
