What is QRIS?
QRIS is Bank Indonesia's national QR code standard. One code accepts payments from every wallet and banking app, and it processed 12.55 billion transactions in the first half of 2026. Since October 1, 2026, merchants pay no fee on QRIS payments up to Rp100,000.
In detail
QRIS, the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard, is Bank Indonesia's national QR code standard. A merchant displays one code, and any e-wallet or banking app can pay it. GoPay, OVO, DANA, ShopeePay, LinkAja and banking apps all work on the same code.
Scale
QRIS processed 12.55 billion transactions worth Rp1.12 quadrillion in the first half of 2026, up 93.92% year on year, and counted 70.6 million users and 49.4 million merchants in Q3 2026. Since October 1, 2026, the merchant fee is 0% on payments up to Rp100,000.
Beyond the domestic QR code
- Cross-border QRIS links Indonesia with Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, South Korea and China.
- QRIS Tap adds NFC payments on Android phones.
- Paylater balances can be spent in stores by scanning QRIS.
What it means for payment operators
QRIS is the common denominator of Indonesian payments, in stores and increasingly online. Operators serving Indonesian merchants need a local provider that generates dynamic QRIS codes per order and confirms payment automatically, so that reconciliation stays simple even with millions of small payments.
