In detail

InstaPay is Egypt's instant payment network. The Central Bank of Egypt launched it in 2022 and Egyptian Banks Company (EBC) runs it. Users send money in seconds to a bank account, a card, a mobile wallet or a payment address, at any time of day.

Scale and pricing

InstaPay reached about 22 million registered customers, with 1.47 billion transactions worth EGP 4.33 trillion in Q2 2026. Since April 2025, transfers cost 0.1% of the amount, between EGP 0.50 and EGP 20, with a cap of EGP 70,000 per transaction.

It is also the bridge between banks and telecom wallets: according to the telecom regulator, 65% of money loaded into mobile wallets in Q2 2025 came from bank accounts through InstaPay.

Use in commerce

InstaPay payment links and QR codes let merchants collect instant payments without a card. This suits sellers on social media and small shops in particular.

What it means for payment operators

For operators serving Egyptian merchants, InstaPay is a low-cost account-to-account option next to Meeza cards, Fawry and wallets. Adding it through a local provider and matching incoming transfers to orders automatically turns a person-to-person habit into a usable checkout method.
