In detail
Cards, and above all credit cards. In June 2026, credit cards made 1.13 billion of the 1.94 billion card payments and 86% of their value, according to the Interbank Card Center (BKM). Card payments reached TL 2.87 trillion that month, though part of the growth reflects high inflation.
Installments are part of the habit
Turkish shoppers often split larger purchases into monthly installments, or taksit, on their credit cards. In 2025, installments made up 57.8% of e-commerce purchases.
The domestic scheme
TROY, run by BKM, reached 90 million cards and 25.3% of card payment value in 2025. Most Turkish cards remain co-branded with Visa or Mastercard.
Online
Cards covered two thirds of e-commerce payments in 2025, according to the Ministry of Trade, ahead of bank transfers such as FAST and cash on delivery. Global wallets are largely absent, so local wallets fill the space.
What it means for payment operators
For operators serving merchants that sell in Turkey, card acceptance through a local acquirer with taksit support is the core of the checkout. Routing Turkish cards, including TROY, locally and enabling installments per merchant matters more than adding international wallets.
