What is the difference between Satispay and BANCOMAT Pay?

Short answer

Satispay is an independent app linked to the user’s bank account, with 6.5 million users in 2026. BANCOMAT Pay is the mobile service of the domestic debit scheme, built into the apps of participating banks. Both handle payments in store, online and between people.

In detail

Both are Italian mobile payment services used in stores, online and between people, but they are built differently.

Satispay

Satispay is an independent app. Users link it to their bank account and pay from the app, without a card. It had 6.5 million users in 2026 and is accepted in stores and online shops.

BANCOMAT Pay

BANCOMAT Pay is the mobile service of BANCOMAT, the domestic debit scheme behind most Italian debit cards. It is built into the apps of participating banks, so customers do not need a separate app. BANCOMAT is also connecting its mobile service with Bizum, MB WAY, Vipps MobilePay and EPI through the European Network for Payments, starting with cross-border transfers.

Why both matter

Italian shoppers use card wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay too, but these two local wallets reach customers that international brands do not cover in the same way.

What it means for payment operators

Merchants selling to Italians usually offer PayPal and at least one of the two local wallets. Operators can connect them through local providers and activate them per merchant, next to cards and BNPL, keeping a single integration for the whole Italian checkout.
