Does NORBr connect operators directly to Visa or Mastercard?
No. NORBr is not a card processor and does not connect operators directly to the networks. It sits above the acquirers and processors an operator chooses, including direct processing partners where they fit, and normalizes decline codes, BIN attributes and fees across them so the operator reads the same data whichever provider processed the payment.
In detail
No. NORBr is not a card processor and does not connect operators directly to the networks. It sits above the acquirers and processors an operator chooses, including direct processing partners where they fit, and normalizes decline codes, BIN attributes and fees across them so the operator reads the same data whichever provider processed the payment.
What NORBr is, and is not
NORBr is white-label payment infrastructure for PSPs, PayFacs, ISOs and ISVs. It is not a card processor and holds no scheme connection. Transactions reach Visa and Mastercard through the acquirers and processors the operator chooses, which NORBr connects to the operator's platform.
Where it sits
- Above the acquirers, processors and alternative payment providers in the operator's network.
- Below the operator's brand: the merchant portal, checkout and reporting carry the operator's name.
- Across providers: one transaction record whatever the provider that processed the payment.
What it normalizes
Decline codes, so a "do not honor" from one acquirer and its equivalent from another read the same. BIN attributes, so routing rules can use card type, country and funding source. Fees, so interchange, scheme fees and markups are itemized per transaction across providers. Direct processing partners fit in the same way as any other acquirer: the operator gains the benefits of fewer layers on that connection, and keeps the same data model everywhere else.
