Does a failed retry cancel the subscription?
Short answer
Only if the policy says so. After its last attempt, a retry policy either leaves the subscription past due, with the missed occurrence dropped and the schedule running on, or pauses it for a set number of cycles, or cancels it with payment failure as the reason. A path of the matrix can also end on No retry.

Leave it past due
The default. The missed occurrence is dropped, the schedule continues and the subscription is flagged overdue.
Pause
The subscription pauses for the number of cycles set by the policy, then resumes on its own.
Cancel
The subscription is canceled, with payment failure recorded as the reason.
