Are NFTs still worth anything in 2026?

In detail

The market has shrunk. NFT sales fell 37% to about $5.63 billion in 2025 and average prices dropped to around $96. Value now lies mostly in use cases such as ticketing, loyalty and authenticity, not speculation.

From speculation to utility

The 2021 and 2022 boom was driven by collectible art and profile picture projects bought as investments. When prices fell, many collections lost most of their value and trading volumes declined. What remains is a smaller market and a shift toward NFTs that do something useful.

Where NFTs still have a role

  • Ticketing: tickets that can be verified and resold under the organizer's rules.
  • Loyalty and membership: rewards or access rights recorded on a blockchain.
  • Authenticity: digital passports for luxury goods, wine or collectibles.
  • Gaming: items that players own and can trade.

What this means for buyers

An NFT is worth what someone will pay for it or what it gives access to. Prices are volatile, liquidity can disappear and many tokens have no resale value. Buyers should treat speculative NFTs as high risk.

What it means for payment operators

For your merchants, utility NFTs such as tickets or loyalty tokens are usually sold through ordinary payment flows: cards, wallets or bank payments. The payment side looks like any digital goods sale, with the extra care that irreversible token delivery requires.
